Traditional Music and Art in Vietnam

Nowadays, the traditional Vietnamese music and theater is not popular to the urban kids as it used to be because poor qulity of the children's program. Acoarding to the article, theatre director Hoang Duan, head of the HCM City Theatre's performance office, says music and theater are a part of the human spirit. He says "human cannot grow without a knowledge of and love for the arts." Ho Van Thanh, art director of the HCM City Circus Theatre, agrees that "Through music and theatre, young people will be able to learn about the world, people, and culture." Furthermore, he says it is difficult to make a show for children. The directors have not enough costs to provide beautiful customes, lights, and effects. Since the year 2000, the government increases support in music and dance for children's cultural activities. The government, likewise, added the traditional music and theatre to the secondary school curriculum.
